Big Walk Player Count — 2 to 12 Players Explained
Big Walk requires at least two players and supports up to twelve. It has no intended best group size: smaller groups are focused, while larger groups become more chaotic.
Quick answer: invite anywhere from 2 to 12 people. Big Walk has no single-player mode and no public matchmaking. The group organizes itself, one player hosts, and the host chooses which version of the world to load.
The three world settings
| Host setting | Use it when | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 2 players | Two people are reliably available | The world adapts for a two-person minimum |
| 3 players | Three people are reliably available | The world adapts for a three-person minimum |
| 4+ players | At least four people are reliably available | The world uses its larger-group configuration |
These settings are minimum-participation choices, not lobby caps. A host can select the two-player world and still have additional friends join. House House says some parts of the world change to fit the selected option.
Which setting should you choose?
Choose according to the smallest group that will reliably stay for the session:
- If only two friends can commit for the whole evening, choose 2 players even if others might drop in.
- If three people are certain and a fourth may arrive later, choose 3 players.
- Choose 4+ players only when at least four people are expected to participate consistently.
This recommendation follows House House’s own explanation that the setting should be treated as the minimum number participating, especially when some players cannot stay for the entire session.
Is there an ideal group size?
No official “best” number exists. House House says every supported size is good and that the game was not designed around one preferred count.
The intended difference is social:
- Fewer players create a more focused cooperative experience.
- Groups closer to twelve create a more chaotic experience.
Claims such as “4–6 is optimal” are therefore personal recommendations, not an official rule, and this guide does not present one as fact.
Can you play alone?
There is no single-player mode. One person may be able to start and walk around briefly, but the adventure is designed around teamwork and communication and cannot be meaningfully progressed alone.
Plan for multiple sessions
Big Walk is a start-to-finish cooperative adventure intended for the same group over multiple sessions. The host keeps the save, so choose someone who can reliably return. Other players can leave, but the host must host again for the group to continue from that saved progress.
